GenRun estimates how long the fuel in your genset will last so you can plan a refuel. Every number is an estimate and not a guarantee: fuel condition, heat, altitude and the state of the engine all shift the result, so lift the cap and look in the tank yourself. Never refuel a running or hot genset. Shut it down, let it cool off, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for your machine. Generators run outdoors only. Running one inside can kill you in minutes. Keep it well clear of windows, doors and vents, and never run it in a shed, garage, under a patio roof or in a caravan annexe, even with everything thrown open. FAQ
The sticker says a lot more hours than the app does. Why?
Manufacturers quote runtime at a chosen fraction of rated output, full tank, engine straight out of the crate. Add a chest freezer and a bore pump and you are a long way from that. GenRun answers for the load you have on the machine right now, which is usually the shorter number.
Does it need a sensor, an account or mobile reception?
No to all three. Nothing extra to buy, nothing to sign up for and no data connection at any point. Worth having out bush or on a remote property, and during a storm or bushfire outage when the tower goes down with the mains.
Can I run it in the shed if I leave the roller door up?
No. Carbon monoxide from a genset cannot be smelled and can reach a fatal level within minutes, and an open door does not clear it out. Keep the machine outdoors and away from any opening, and fit battery-powered CO alarms in the house or van.
What makes the estimate sharper?
Log the refuels. Once three or more real ones are in, GenRun switches to the measured consumption of your own genset instead of the published figure. Being honest about the appliance list, including the start-up surge on a fridge or a compressor, matters just as much.
