Need a hand with Privacy Sound? Start with the setup steps and FAQ below. If you still have questions, email us — we're happy to help.

Getting started

1. Choose a sound or preset

Pick a masking sound, or tap a preset like Clinic Reception or Meeting Room to set the sound and strength at once.

2. Connect a speaker (optional)

Pair a Bluetooth speaker for wider coverage, or just use your iPhone's speaker. The app shows the connection status.

3. Press play

Adjust volume and masking strength, turn on automatic volume if you want hands-free adjustment, and you're protected.

4. Save & automate

Save the setup as a favourite and set a business-hours timer so it starts and stops on its own each day.

Frequently asked questions

Does Privacy Sound record my conversations?
No. The microphone is used only to measure the room's volume level so the masking sound can auto-adjust. Nothing is recorded, analysed, stored or sent anywhere.
How does it make conversations private?
It plays continuous masking sound around you. That background sound overlaps speech and makes the words harder for nearby people to make out, without being loud or disruptive.
Do I need a Bluetooth speaker?
No. Privacy Sound works with your iPhone's built-in speaker. A Bluetooth speaker simply covers a larger area, which helps in bigger rooms or open spaces.
What is automatic volume adjustment?
When enabled, the app senses how loud the room is and smoothly raises the masking level while people talk, then eases it back down when it's quiet — so you don't have to touch anything.
Can I mix in natural sounds?
Yes. You can layer waves, stream, wind or forest over the masking sound and set the mix ratio, from purely functional to a calm, natural ambience.
Which devices are supported?
Privacy Sound is an iPhone app running on a recent version of iOS. A Bluetooth 5.0 or newer speaker is recommended for external playback.
