How do I hold the phone?
Like you're pointing it at the antenna. Long edge of the phone is the beam axis, top of the phone points toward the target. Hold it at arm's length and tilt/rotate until both axes of the cross-hair are centred.
Why is my accuracy so bad?
The phone's magnetic sensor is sensitive to nearby metal — your roof structure, guttering, power lines, vehicles, electronics. Move the phone in a figure-8 pattern to recalibrate. If accuracy stays poor (±10° or worse), move away from metal sources and try again. Always verify against a known landmark before trusting the reading.
What's the difference between true north and magnetic north?
True north is geographic north (the pole). Magnetic north is where a compass needle points, and it drifts. Maps and GPS use true north; some instruments and aviation use magnetic. Choose the one your target reference uses. Dish Pointer can switch per target.
Can it measure signal strength or guarantee reception?
No. Dish Pointer is a compass and tilt gauge — it aligns your antenna mechanically. Signal strength, reception, and interference are separate problems that require network analysers or spectrum analysers, not this app.
Does it work on iPad?
No, this app is for iPhone only. iPads have a different form factor and sensor arrangement.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere. All data (targets, logs, settings) stays on your phone. No cloud, no account, no analytics, no network connection. The app works completely offline.
