Need a hand with BoatLog? Start with the setup guide and FAQ below. If you still have questions, we're happy to help.

Getting started

1. Add your boat

On first launch, add a boat with its name, type and home port. You can add more boats anytime.

2. Allow location

For automatic recording in the background, choose “Allow While Using App,” then “Change to Always Allow.” You can adjust this anytime in Settings.

3. Just go boating

BoatLog detects your departure and starts recording. Your track, distance and conditions are saved automatically.

4. Review & share

When you're back, open the voyage to see stats, the map and an optional AI diary — then export or share if you like.

Frequently asked questions

Why does BoatLog need “Always” location access?
To detect your departure and record your track in the background — even when the app is closed. Without “Always,” recording can't continue once the app leaves the foreground. You can change this anytime in Settings.
Does recording drain my battery?
BoatLog is designed to be efficient, using significant-change and motion detection so it only records while you're actually underway.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. Your voyages, boats and notes stay on your device (and your own iCloud if you enable it). We don't run accounts and can't see your data.
What are the weather and sea figures based on?
BoatLog fetches conditions from public services (Open-Meteo) using only nearby coordinates. No personal information is sent.
Can I use it for more than one boat?
Yes. Add as many boats as you like — each keeps its own voyages, stats, maintenance and documents.
Can I export my voyages?
Yes. You can export tracks as GPX, create a PDF, and share a voyage card. A float plan can also be sent to family and friends.
